Purdue hands Michigan first home loss (AP)

Purdue probably needed a signature victory to cement its place in the NCAA tournament. The Boilermakers got one Saturday thanks to Terone Johnson. The sophomore scored a career-high 22 points and Robbie Hummel added 17 as Purdue beat No. 11 Michigan 75-61, handing the Wolverines their first home loss of the season.

Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis made no secret of his strategy. “I remember one time he just told his guys, `Just bring him in here, I’m going to block everything,”‘ Arkansas guard Mardracus Wade said. Davis scored a career-high 27 points and blocked seven shots to set a school season record in the second-ranked Wildcats’ 86-63 victory over the Razorbacks on Tuesday night.

Minnesota had lost four straight, was on the road against the nation’s No. 7 team and had lost star forward Trevor Mbakwe to an ACL injury more than a month earlier. Coming into Assembly Hall, where the Hoosiers had won their first 11 games, including over then-No. 1 Kentucky and then-No. 2 Ohio State, the Golden Gophers seemed to have almost no chance.
